Innovative Therapy Programs Offer Improved Quality of Life
Spend a few minutes visiting with Joe Pickavance and it won't take long to understand that this is a man who is passionate about his job. As Director of Rehabilitation Therapy for Guardian Home Care Holdings, parent company of Guardian Home Care and Texas Home Health, Joe oversees three key disciplines: Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy. Or, as he describes it, "three disciplines which can make a significant difference in patient outcomes."
Point the conversation in the direction of what these therapies are doing for their patients and Joe will talk at length about the skills, talent and experience that his team of therapists possess and, as a result, the positive difference they are making for their home care patients. We are very proud of our team and continue to strive to be on the cutting edge of our ever changing therapeutic advancements," said Joe.
According to Joe, some of the most exciting programs are VitalStim, Vetisbular Rehab and Geriatric Specialty; three stand-out therapies that identify Guardian Home Care and Texas Home Health rehab therapists as the best of the best in terms of what they are able to deliver to their home care patients. VitalStim Therapy uses small electrical currents to stimulate the muscles responsible for swallowing. At the same time, trained specialists help patients "re-educate" their muscles through rehabilitation therapy. Vestibular Rehab serves clients that are having problems with vertigo or dizziness. And, the Geriatric Training Specialization prepares therapists in assisting older people and their families with In-home care arrangements.
"The introduction of these specialized therapies into our rehab program is exciting for all of us," said Joe. But most exciting of all is what we'll be able to offer to our referring physicians and the difference we'll be able to make in the lives of their patients."
